The South African Traditional Karate Council (SATKC) held its second Annual National Karate Championships on 29 March at the Emerald Casino in Vanderbijlpark. The event was a joint venture between the SATKC and Martial Arts South Africa (MASA), and included both traditional Japanese and Okinawan events as well as Korean events.
A group of 14 students from Butokukan Amajuba were included in the Traditional Karate KZN Team which attended the event.
The following students won medals:
· Bobby Ding – Gold (kumite).
· Jardine Singh – Silver (kumite).
· Akira Singh – Silver (kata).
· Henko Bruin – Silver (kata).
· Chardy Beamson – Bronze (kata).
· Damiksha Annathan – Bronze (kata).
· Zarina Khan – Bronze (kobudo).
· Frik Willemse – Bronze (kobudo).
All members of Butokukan Amajuba who represented KZN at this event have been awarded full KZN colours.
The South African Traditional Karate Council is recognised by SASCOC as an official national all styles karate governing body, and as such may award full national (Protea) colours to all athletes who represent South Africa as part of an official national team at international events.
