Remember the dog-a-thon

The annual Dog-a-thon will be held at Egerton's Agar Field on May 31

The Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) would like to remind the public that the annual Dog-a-thon will be held at Egerton’s Agar Field on May 31. Registration starts at 2:30pm and the walk will start at 3pm. The entrance fee is R30 a dog and the walk will be 2.5km. All proceeds raised will go towards the upkeep of the kennels. This includes housing and feeding abused and abandoned animals, while we try to find them new homes.

We are always looking for donations and are desperate for a new stationery cabinet. Winter is almost here and the pets at the kennels need blankets to keep warm at night. The animals also need food, and we are appealing to the public for dry and wet cat and dog food. Please find it in your heart to help. If you can help with either a stationery cabinet, blankets or food, please contact the kennels on 076-151-1784.

The league would like to ask the public to call them in advance if they wish to drop an animal off. Over the weekend, someone took a cat to the kennels, but did not call or even hoot. They left the cat with some food and water, and pushed it through the fence. However, they put the cat into a private yard and the dogs in that yard killed the cat. Let this be a lesson to everyone! Call if you want an animal to be taken in by us!

There are currently many cats and dogs at the kennels whose time is running out. These sweet animals need kind and loving homes or else they will be put to sleep. There is a wide variety of cats to choose from, and a dog to suit any family. Please visit the kennels and choose your next best friend. Orphan animals are just the best! They will love you to the ends of the earth if you show them you care. In particular, there are two female Dachshund cross Jack Russell dogs that have one week left to find homes. Please give these adorable puppies a chance at life and love.

Thanks goes out to Pierre Massyn, Spar, TFS, Mr Maharaj and Ladysmith SAI Centre.
