Police advise a proactive stand against crime
Be constantly on the look-out for suspicious-looking characters, and do not hesitate to report them to the police.

In an effort to curb crime in the community, Newcastle police are advising motorists to follow these basic safety tips:
– Refrain from parking your vehicles for a prolonged time in one area, as this could allow thieves to steal your vehicles.
– police need the community to avoid leaving vehicles unattended for long periods of time.
– Thieves target car parks, so avoid parking your vehicle where there are no security officers guarding other cars. to prevent yourself from being a target;
– Make sure that all doors and windows are properly locked when parking your vehicle.
– Valuable items like laptops, cameras, cell phones and handbags should always be put in the boot.
– Install an alarm system as a deterrent.
– When using your immobiliser, make sure doors are locked. Do not activate your immobiliser when you are far from your vehicle, as there is a syndicate stealing vehicles with security remote controls.
– Do not leave your firearm in the vehicle when you park – this is also against the law.
