Local politicians take to national and provincial stage

Two local politicians have been chosen to represent become members of the Provincial Legislature, and the National Assembly.

Former councillors, Dr Imraan Keeka, and Thomas Hadebe, will both be sworn in next week as members of the provincial parliament and national parliament respectively.

The men have resigned from their former position as councillors in the town, as they wish to concentrate on their new positions, which will allow them to have a greater impact on the country as a whole.

Dr Keeka explained, “This opportunity is humbling for us, because it has given us more responsibility to be of service to the people.”

He said he would never forget the people of Newcastle, but that this was an opportunity for him to not only try and ensure Newcastle’s success, but also that of the province.

Mr Hadebe agreed, explaining that since they are both from Newcastle, they will always hold Newcastle close to heart.

“One of the most imminent issues we will bring up when we have the opportunity, is the removal of healthcare services in Newcastle, because that is what rationalisation has done,” said Mr Hadebe.

Both men were adamant they would drive this issue provincially and nationally.

As they had an intimate knowledge of Newcastle Municipality and issues in town, they said they would put it to good use to benefit the town.

“We will be receiving an area allocation, after we are sworn in, but we will never forget Newcastle, because both of us will remain citizens of Newcastle,” said Dr Keeka.

The two expressed their gratitude to all those in the community who answered their call to clean governance.
