Winter care is essential for your pet

When winter arrives, our pets need a little extra love and care.
When the cold weather arrives, we reach for our jerseys, heaters, electric blankets and hot water bottles.
Your pet does not have the luxury of this choice.
If it’s too cold for you – it’s too cold for your dog!
If your beloved pet could speak… what would he say to you?
Shelter
If you have your pet outdoors, make sure that you have applied some winter-proofing to his shelter. Raise his kennel up off the wet grass by mounting it onto some blocks.
Ensure that his kennel is in a warm spot; away from drafts.
Apply some newspaper or old carpet to the floor or even the interior to prevent icy winds. An old blanket will also keep off the chill.
Feeding
We often seek our comfort foods during winter.
Always feed your pet the highest quality food to ensure a healthy and balanced diet.
Remember that the quantity of your food should be sufficient to nourish your animal’s size. Keep your pet hydrated at all times.
They should have access to fresh drinking water throughout the day.
Food for thought
Remember that owning a pet means assuming a responsibility for the well-being of that animal.
Our animals cannot speak.
They NEED you to be their VOICE. Deciding to adopt a dog or a cat should not be an impulsive act.
It will be a lifelong companion that needs to be budgeted for.
If you are unable to maintain your animal’s dietary habits, surrender it to someone who can.
While it may not always be true that dogs and their owners resemble one another physically, there is certainly a great deal that people can learn about us by looking at our dogs.
For good or for bad, our dogs and the way we treat them reflect our personalities, values and our lifestyles.
So, what does the condition of your pet say about you?
