CANSA gears up for Relay for Life
Taking place from October 11 to October 12, RFL preparations are fully under way to ensure the event reaches as many people as possible.
CANSA’s Relay For Life (RFL) is the biggest fund-raiser and cancer awareness event hosted by CANSA.
Taking place from October 11 to October 12, RFL preparations are fully under way to ensure the event reaches as many people as possible.
RFL committee members met last week Tuesday to monitor the progress leading up to the event.
Mona Maharaj, RFL chairperson, appeals to the community to get actively involved, either by serving on the committee, or by making any other contribution towards the RFL.
The RFL is a 12-hour event, where people form teams and walk from 6pm until 6am the following morning.
Walking the relay during the night is symbolic of the dark hours cancer patients face while fighting cancer, whereas dawn represents hope.
The committee is also looking for people who would be willing to use their various talents to support the mission of saving lives.
Registrations are now open for teams to join the Relay for Life, and interested people can contact CANSA.

Apart from the RFL, the committee also planned other fund-raising events like Jail and Bail set for July 5, the proceeds whereof will be used towards cancer research and support programmes for patients.
Jail and Bail is an event which sees a member of the community ‘jailed’ and the bail raised to release the volunteer goes to CANSA.
A further fund-raiser on the cards is the CANSA Pop Idols which is set to take place on August 2.
