Manhunt launched after Madadeni shooting
An influential taxi association member was murdered in his vehicle on June 5.
An influential taxi boss was mercilessly gunned down in Madadeni last Thursday morning.
The deputy chairman of the Sizwe Taxi Owners’ Association, Sipho Mlotshwa was shot and killed in his vehicle while stopped at an intersection, in what residents believe to be a continuation of rampant taxi violence.
According to police spokespeople, seven shots were fired from a silver Toyota Corolla, which sped from the scene.
Mr Mlotshwa’s death came one day after a meeting between Sizwe and other taxi associations regarding routes, and is the latest in a series of shootings across the greater Newcastle area.
SAPS provincial spokesman, Captain Thulani Zwane cautioned the motive for the shooting was still uncertain.
Cpt Zwane said investigations were currently under way, while local spokesman, Captain Shooz Magudulela stated a manhunt had been launched by the Newcastle Cluster.
An unconfirmed report indicated two arrests have since been made.
