War breaks out in Lakeside-Bhekuzulu 6B

IT WAS a very sour beginning to the day on Sunday, June 8, when the residents at the new Lakeside houses (Bhekuzulu 6B) accused of having “forcefully” taken residence were roughly removed.

The matter, which has been going in and out of court for a very long time, still hasn’t been resolved.

According to these people, they registered to get these houses and were even given house numbers for the houses that they moved into.

This though, does not seem to be the case as the rightful owners, who own title deeds to the houses roughly threw them out of the houses on Sunday.

The SAPS say that this “war” started in 2007 after these houses had been built.

“After these houses were built, these people forced their way into them and the fight broke out as the owners with title deeds had proof that they owned the houses but could not live in them as many were occupied,” said the SAPS’s Major Mbatha.

These people have been in and out of court and have been arrested numerous times and told to leave but upon being released, they are said to return to these houses and this is what has driven the rightful home owners to the edge.

On Sunday, a group of these homeowners set out to their houses to remove these “impostors”. They raided the houses, breaking windows and removing furniture.

The police were called and they tried their best to bring order but they were unable to help those whose furniture had been removed and windows were broken.

“We couldn’t do much for these people as those who were breaking the windows were in fact damaging their own apartments because they had title deeds to show,” said a member of the SAPS who was there on Sunday.

The SAPS say that they hope the municipality can intervene and help these people find their own homes so that they don’t force their way into those that do not belong to them. This is an ongoing war and that may be the only way to resolve the matter.
