Witnesses describe collision

The cyclist, who was involved in a collision with a motorist on Boundary Road last night, is in a stable condition at the Madadeni Provincial Hospital.

The motorist involved was allegedly returning home when he collided with the cyclist, who was on his way to the nearby petrol station.

On-scene witnesses described the collision as extremely scary.

“It was so shocking. We saw the driver turning but his indicators weren’t on. I don’t think the cyclist knew what was coming, and I don’t think the driver saw the guy riding his bike,” alleged one witness.

Witnesses further alleged the driver had not immediately stepped on the brakes, after hitting the cyclist the first time.

They described how the cyclist flew into the air before crashing down a second time, suffering head trauma when his head smashed into the windscreen.

“He was screaming, and ran off the road. I think he was scared that the car was going to drive over him,” claimed one witness.

The cyclist’s father arrived at the scene, and was extremely shaken by the event.

Both the father, and driver of the vehicle declined to comment on the incident at the time.

Police spokesperson, Captain Shooz Magudulela, said the incident would be investigated. More to follow.
