N11 closed due to poor visibility

Reports of fires in other areas of Newcastle are also flooding in, in what seems to be a day of flame and fire.

Traffic officials have now closed the N11 between the Durnacol turn off and Chelmsford dam.

Smoke caused by a raging veld fire has obstructed visibility to a point where it is no longer safe to travel on the affected section of the N11.

Further reports from Richard Marais of South African Community Crime Watch Newcastle indicate motorists are being re-routed, due to the poor visibility caused by the thick smoke.

Theblas Mathebula, who lives in the Durnacol area, reported a loss of livestock due to the fire. The movement of the fire is unclear at this stage, as no contact can be established with the brave men and women fighting the blaze.
