Runners impress ahead of Vryheid parkrun anniversary

Sixteen personal bests and a 200th milestone highlight another successful Vryheid parkrun.

Vryheid parkrun participants delivered an impressive performance on Saturday, with 16 personal best times recorded during ideal running conditions.

Ngcobo leads the field

Leading the field was Andile Ngcobo, who crossed the finish line first in only his second parkrun event. Ngcobo improved on his previous time by a full minute to claim a new personal best.

Carla Muller was the first woman home and also celebrated a personal best performance.

Mvelase reaches 200 parkruns

There was another milestone worth celebrating as Thabani Mvelase, affectionately known among fellow participants as ‘Mr Shuffles’ or ‘Speedy Shuffles’, completed his 200th parkrun event.

Sixteen runners achieve personal bests

Organisers congratulated the 16 participants who achieved personal best times: Andile Ngcobo, Carla Muller, Ntando Ndlovu, Johann, Nkosikhona, Mfihlakalo, David, George, Megan, Sonja, Ronnique, Nico, Ronel, Christa, Isie and Chris.

Anniversary celebrations on the horizon

The event also served as a reminder that Vryheid parkrun will celebrate its eighth anniversary this month. The first Vryheid parkrun took place on June 16, 2018, and organisers are planning a special birthday event on June 13.

With the FIFA World Cup and the Comrades Marathon taking place during the same period, organisers are encouraging the community to join in what promises to be a weekend-long celebration of sport and fitness.
