Illegal immigrants appear in court
The case has been remanded until June 25 so that the services of an interpreter can be acquired
Police have confirmed that 16 immigrants were arrested yesterday (Tuesday). The group has been charged for being in the country illegally and 14 of them appeared in court today (Wednesday).
This after Public Safety officers noticed two overloaded bakkies parked in Carbineer Road yesterday morning.
When the officers approached the vehicles, they found men and women sleeping inside.
A search was carried out and the occupants were asked for identity documents, which they could not produce. They instead produced invalid passports.
The goods they had with them are valued at over R100,000.
The immigrants appeared in D-Court and are still in custody. The case has been remanded until Wednesday, June 25, so that the services of an interpreter can be acquired.
