Aviary Hill’s sewage threat persists
The gushing waste had been reported almost two weeks ago by resident, Michael Grundling, who said the rampant sewage leak had persisted for more than seven months.
Human waste still gushed from a manhole on Quail Street earlier this week.
Ward councillor, Bebsie Cronje confirmed when she had personally gone out to investigate the matter last weekend, sewage continued to flood the open area in Aviary Hill.
So dire was the situation, she resolved to visit the municipality in person to have the problem addressed.
“I will get them out there as soon as possible.”

In his words, the sewage had resulted in the nearby river system dying out.
Municipal officials were alerted to the problem and maintained a team had gone out to staunch the murky flow, expressing surprise to hear the sewage was once again leaking.
Again, they promised to address the matter with the due urgency.
Previously mentioned effects of sewage contaminating a river system could include poisoning of residents by methane, over-nourishment of adjacent vegetation and health risks for anyone downstream making use of the water.
