Send-off for students heading to India
All the applicants were evaluated and selected by the Indian Consul
The Office of the Speaker at Emnambithi /Ladysmith Municipality recently held a send-off function for six students who will be spending the next three years at the University of Osmania in India.
Felicia Ntshalintshali, Xolisani Ngwenya, Samkelo Zulu, Adikash Buthuram, Siphelele Hlongwane and Michael Ndlazi, together with their families, were treated to lunch at the Crown Hotel over the weekend after being nominated to study in India by the Indian Consul General based in Durban. Councillor G Ndaba from Okhahlamba Local Municipality and local business people were also present at the farewell luncheon.
This was all set in motion when an advert was placed at the beginning of the year for all students who have good grades but need financial assistance to apply for studying posts in India. All the applicants were evaluated and selected by the Indian Consul.
Programme director Rosheila Thomas and Council Speaker Zehra Rassool would like to thank all the parents for allowing their children to go and further their education in India. They also thank Office National for sponsoring Andile Khumalo (who is currently in India) with a laptop. The laptop has been sent over and he will receive it sometime this week.
