Welcomed like rock stars, East Coast Radio’s (ECR) Breakfast Tour had a thrilling experience during its recent live broadcast from Newcastle.
Upon the group’s arrival in town, they were greeted and escorted by some of the local biking community. Brave presenter, Natarah Nadesen, even jumped on the back of one of the bikes.
Darren Maule performed a live stand-up comedy show for some lucky residents at Mid City Grill. Another word used to describe Newcastle by the ECR team, was ‘COLD.”
Coming from warm Durban weather, it was not surprising for residents to see the team bundled up and sipping hot coffee as they aired a live-broadcast of the show from the parking lot of Village Walk Mall.
Newcastle Mayor, Afzul Rehman was interviewed live on the show, and marketed the ‘secondary-city’ for any potential investors as best he could.
He joked he could have been a movie star if he wasn’t in politics.
Fort Amiel Curator, Louis Eksteen, also made an appearance on the show, giving a brief history on the town and its significant place in South African history.
Local CANSA members did not let the opportunity to raise awareness about the organisation slip through their fingers, as local CANSA member, Michelle Apperley managed to get Mr Maule to don a pink bra showing his support. The 10-year old Llewellyn Govender stole the show when he claimed first prize and R2 000 for topping the Kid’s Grand Challenge.
