Telkom have confirmed that they are aware of a problem with the internet backbone in Ladysmith. They are working to restore connectivity to those who have no internet.

Estcourt has been added to the list of areas affected by the Roosboom riots.

Protesters reportedly stoned Telkom workers attempting to fix the damaged fibre-optic line cut by rioters.

It is unclear at this stage how many internet users are affected by the cutting of the cable or when Telkom will be able to effect repairs.

But several residents have begun putting pressure on Telkom to fix the problem, even if it requires moving the cable away from Roosboom.

“How can some people have internet and others, including businesses, be without internet for days,” said an angry businessman.

Latest update: Telkom are busy re-routing affected businesses and consumers away from the Roosboom line. It is expected that this process should be completed later this morning and everyone should be back online. The service will be slower than normal because of the number of connections and line congestion, but this is better than having no internet connection at all.
