Dedicated to raising awareness about the disease and giving hope to patients, CANSA has gone to great lengths to organise exciting treats for cancer patients, with the support of various beneficiaries.
Estella Naicker, CANSA community mobiliser, said Cancer Care Week would start off on Monday, August 4, when cancer patients and survivors would be treated to popcorn and a special screening movie by Victorian Theatres. On Tuesday, Factory Plaza will treat the patients to a full breakfast. Also getting on board, Milky Lane will be treating cancer patients to an ice cream on Wednesday. EduCentre will pamper the group of cancer patients with a makeover on Thursday.
Friday will be a relaxing day at Life Café, with survivors and patients enjoying a high tea. On Saturday, August 9, the CANSA team will be at the Memel Walk, where they will be creating awareness.
“Cancer survivors and the community can also register teams for the Relay for Life on the day,” said Miss Naicker.
At the end of this special week, a support group for cancer patients and their caregivers will be formed.
This will take place on Sunday, August 10, from 2pm until 4pm at Mediclinic Newcastle’s conference room.
Miss Naicker believed the support group could prove to be beneficial and she urged cancer patients and their families to join.
She encouraged cancer survivors to attend this meeting to share their experiences with those still fighting cancer.
“We are hoping through the experiences of survivors and a support system, we can approach the fight in a more positive way,” said Miss Naicker. Cancer patients, their families or survivors who wish to be a part of the Cancer Care Week programme can contact Miss Naicker on 079 256 7570.
