Two men stabbed in street corner brawl

According to Richard Hoffman, an eye witness, the two men had been sitting in the park situated at the intersection, when an argument erupted.

Two men stabbed each other at the intersection of Drakensberg Road and Allen Street shortly after 6pm tonight.

According to Richard Hoffman, an eye witness, the two men had been sitting in the park situated at the intersection, when an argument erupted.

“The guy at the traffic lights started it. He picked up a bottle and when the other guy walked to the traffic lights, he broke the bottle and stabbed him.”

This resulted in the second male not only stabbing back, but overpowering his alleged attacker.

“It was brutal. The one guy was on top of the other and just stabbing. When I saw how serious it was getting, I ran and pulled him off,” said Mr Hoffman.

Shortly afterwards, the second male made off in a taxi, supposedly to the hospital.

A police officer on the scene could not confirm the cause of the attack, but said an investigation would be conducted.

“I got three different stories, but after they have been to the hospital, they will be questioned,” explained the police officer.

The extent of the two men’s injuries could not be ascertained. ER24 Newcastle spokesperson, Jan-Henk van Vuuren, confirmed the man was taken to hospital after being stabilised on scene.
