Chairperson of the Community Police Forum, Reverend Nduli shares some tips he believes can take the town of Estcourt forward and help achieve a crime free community.
1. Meetings must be held in all committees to promote and protect policing in all communities.
2. Police living in the community must declare themselves to assist at all times.
3. Police working ability must be promoted and supported.
4. Police must lead by example, and the community should be able to count on them, not just when matters arise.
5. The community need to come up with clean up programmes and police patrol systems or raids to bust crime in shebeens and put drug lords behind bars.
6. Monitors who work alongside the police must work twice as hard.
7. The Sports and Recreation Department should look at creating parks for the youth with gym facilities as well as play areas for the youth to be kept occupied. That way we would be preventing the youth from being involved in crime.
8. Taverns and bottle stores must ensure that they follow policy. Only people aged 18-years and older may enter the store. They should also control trading hours they shouldn’t be operating 24/7.
This must be respected in order to save the lives of our future generation.
9. The Community Policing Forum is prepared to work alongside the municipality to reduce poverty and to ensure all wards are functioning properly by speeding the service delivery process up.
10. With the installation of cameras in the Central Business District, both crime and traffic can be monitored and controlled.
