Police officer shows a mother’s touch
Being a mother, Capt Shange immediately felt sorry for them and gave the children a lift to school
Police officers are usually on the lookout for suspicious behaviour signalling criminal activity, but don’t forget that they have a heart too.
This was evidenced on a cold winter’s morning last week, when Captain Shange from the Ladysmith Community Service Centre (CSC) was on patrol in the Umbulwane area. Her eyes caught sight of three young boys on their way to school.
The youngsters had the bare minimum on and seemed to be feeling very cold. Being a mother, Capt Shange immediately felt sorry for them and gave the children a lift to school.
She used this opportunity to jot down the youngsters’ particulars. Once back at the police station, she offered other officers the opportunity to help the children as well. She wasted no time in going out and buying warm items for the boys.
She then put together a parcel of other items that were given by personnel from Ladysmith police station and went out with officers from Ladysmith Corporate Communications to Sidingulwazi Primary School, where the items were handed over to the three surprised and delighted boys.
