Man dies after accident at ArcelorMittal
His identity is being withheld, pending a formal statement from ArcelorMittal communications staff.
Sources have confirmed that a man died at the ArcelorMittal Newcastle plant yesterday afternoon.
It is believed the man was cutting a section of pipe approximately 20 metres long, which was allegedly not properly supported.
It is further believed that after cutting the section loose, it did not fall away as expected. Allegedly, the man then put his head in between the loose section of pipe and another pipe. The loose section then allegedly broke loose. The man, believed to be a contractor, sustained severe head trauma.
His identity is being withheld, pending a formal statement from ArcelorMittal communications staff. It is unclear whether the man was a Newcastle resident.
