After attacking the mayor yesterday, the day and night in Driefontein and Burford turned into an orgy of violence and destruction as mobs went on the rampage.

A community hall, a councillor’s office, a municipal tanker and a newly-built stadium were all destroyed in fires last night.

The mayor, together with municipal officials, plans to address the community later on today in an attempt to end the wanton destruction of municipal buildings and equipment.
