If one had to ask Keshnee Maharaj what possessions she would rescue from her burning house, she would most likely answer, ” my camera and the photograph album or a computer with digital images.”
When in panic mode it’s interesting to see that people would most probably grab photos first rather than any other valuables. This impulse to save our recorded memories is a powerful force, which tells us much about the role of photography in our lives and our constant desire to distil our most precious moments into images.

Pictures are all you have left when your event is over. They are your cherished keepers and the only memories you have left after all the sleepless nights, long hours spent planing and all the money spent to make the event the most special day in your existence.
There is something to be said about gazing at an image and having it evoke memories and emotions in you, feelings that had been fading with time. With a photograph, you will never forget something that you want to remember, and you will always be able to refresh it in you memory.

Keshnee Maharaj a well-known local photographer has been a part of many cherished moments. She also manages a décor business as well. Mrs Maharaj’s job can be demanding and very time consuming and being a family woman, which is a never-ending job, but she gets through it by creating a balance between the two.

Mrs Maharaj says that at times juggling, being a family woman and a businesswoman can be quite hectic.
She started her career in photography 30 years ago and started off by using a manual film camera, Minolta x 700.
“My motivation to continue in this field was the appreciation I got from clients when I presented the final product,” said Mrs Maharaj.

The work Mrs Maharaj chose brings her great pleasure and “the end result is very rewarding,” she added.
Mrs Maharaj now makes use of a Nikon and Canon digital cameras, and says the advantages are you can immediately view your photos and if need be edit them before processing.

Mrs Maharaj believes that the key ingredient to taking a great photograph is that it should have the ability to tell a story, as photography is an art.

Mrs Maharaj mostly takes staged or action photos at events, but she personally loves doing nature photography. A few centuries ago a female would not have been able to take photography up as a profession. Mrs Maharaj considers herself lucky for she can’t imagine not being able to have been apart of so many heart-warming moments during her career. Mrs Maharaj advises women to have a passion for what they do and enjoy it to the fullest and that will give off your best ability.
