Residents and councillors voice dissatisfaction

The Mayor of Umtshezi Municipality Bongani Dlamini has lashed out at stakeholders who did not attend the service delivery community feedback meeting held in Wembezi on Sunday

The Mayor of Umtshezi Municipality Bongani Dlamini has lashed out at stakeholders who did not attend the service delivery community feedback meeting held at Park One in Wembezi on Sunday. Mr Dlamini addressed more than 1 000 people and told them that contractors and engineers are duty-bound to give explanations to the community about the delay of the multi-purpose hall, the stadia and the taxi rank.

None of the stakeholders, including Uthukela District Municipality’s water department attended the service delivery feedback meeting. Mr Dlamini instructed the Municipal Manager Nonhlanhla Njoko to secure a meeting for Tuesday afternoon and allow the contractors another chance to give reasons to the community members concerning their complaints.
The Mayor has clustered Wards one, two and three in Wembezi and he will be visiting all other wards in the near future.
He said those who fought for freedom made it clear when they sacrificed their blood for us to live in peace and harmony.
He praised the input of women as they contributed positively in raising children when their fathers took up arms against the previous racist regime.

“Let’s take responsibility for our own lives rather than blaming the government”, Mr Dlamini said.
He added that, currently we are facing job scarcity in the whole country, however, there are measures in place to create more jobs for the youth. A number of people raised concerns regarding water shortages and debt write-off. No one from the district municipality attended the meeting to give an explanation, nevertheless, Councillor Duncan Magubane, the local municipality’s district representative said Uthukela promised to send a person to explain.
The meeting was disrupted by people who were under the influence of liquor and the Public Order Police advised the Mayor to cancel the meeting.
