Chaos within municipality too

THERE was visible chaos outside the municipality this week as striking workers trashed the CBD, and perhaps it is in part a reflection of the chaos inside the municipality, which has now been without a permanent Municipal Manager (MM) for three years.

But what is happening inside the corridors of power is still being kept a secret.

The authorities within the municipality steadfastly refuses to clarify the situation, but it would seem that the aspirant MM, a Dr Mthembu, who had been refused access to his would-be office, took it anyway with the assistance of the SAPS from Ulundi.

Then, apparently, last week, Dr Mthembu was served with a Court Order to leave the premises following the granting of an interdict to the MEC. Apparently, it is the validity of Dr Mthembu’s contract which is in dispute. Apparently, the High Court will make some sort of ruling in this matter in October.

Meanwhile, as chaos reigns inside and outside the municipality, the Mayor, Cllr PN Khaba, is nowhere to be seen. She has, apparently, had a hip replacement operation and has been off work for seven weeks. There is no deputy mayor – she was fired by her party some months ago.

So, no mayor…

…no deputy mayor…

…no municipal manager…

The ship seems to be heading for the rocks…
