Firearms and ammunition recovered

It is suspected that the four were on their way to commit a robbery when they were discovered by police

Police believe that they foiled an armed robbery after arresting four people between Weenen and Colenso last Wednesday. Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane explained that members of the Ladysmith Vehicle Investigation Section were conducting activities related to tracing of stolen vehicles when they came across a vehicle parked alongside the road between Weenen and Colenso.

“As the police officials approached the vehicle the occupants therein fled, but they were soon apprehended.
“Police officials then discovered four unlicensed firearms and ammunition in the suspects’ possession,” he commented.
The arrested suspects are aged between 20 and 63 and 36.

“It is suspected that the four were on their way to commit a robbery when they were discovered by police. “Police are investigating the possibility that they may be linked to other cases in the province,” added Captain Zwane.

Later that day police arrested three people in Ekuvukeni. Unlicensed firearms and ammunition were recovered from the suspects aged 19, 53 and 25. They appeared in the Colenso Magistrates Court on Thursday, September 11 and were remanded in custody pending a new court date.
