Lucky escape
A Mini Cooper was nearly torn in two after it collided with another vehicle on Allen Street on Tuesday afternoon.

Four men were lucky to escape injury when the Mini Cooper they were travelling in was nearly torn in two after it collided with another vehicle on Allen Street on Tuesday afternoon.
Luckily, none of the occupants sustained serious injuries. According to reports, the Mini was seen driving towards the Allen and Hardwick Street intersection, with the occupants allegedly waving their arms outside the vehicle while listening to loud music.
Multiple vehicles were involved in the collision, as the car mounted the pavement separating the lanes on Allen Street. It is believed the driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a stationary bakkie, which was waiting in the turning lane.
Mike Allen, the driver of the bakkie said he never saw the Mini coming.
“I was waiting in the turning lane when the car hit my bakkie,” said Mr Allen.
Mr Allen complained of a sore hip, but declined medical attention from paramedics on scene, preferring to visit his private doctor.
In a shock twist, Simon Sibiya, one of Mr Allen’s workers, was getting off the bakkie when the collision occurred.
“Simon was busy getting off the bakkie when the Mini hit us,” explained Mr Allen. “We were just on our way home after a long day.”
According to Mercy Care paramedic Debby Caine, who took Mr Sibiya to hospital, he suffered lower back injuries which were still under evaluation.
“It would appear to be only soft tissue injuries,” she said.
According to unofficial reports the driver of the Mini was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.
The Mini came to a stop in the oncoming lane, obstructing late afternoon traffic. Paramedics and emergency workers all expressed surprise and gratitude the injuries were not more severe.
