Newcastle policeman still under investigation for fraud
An investigation into alleged fraudulent conduct by a Newcastle policeman is still under way. However, spokesperson declines to comment on the reason why the policeman still on active duty.
Investigations into the allegedly fraudulent actions of a constable from SAPS Radio Technical Telecommunication Radio Unit are still under way.
Apparently, the officer submitted a document to the Department of Higher Education, containing alleged false information about his work history and claiming he had joined the radio unit in 2006. Apparently, he also forged the signature of his commanding officer on the document.
Upon joining the unit, the constable allegedly acquired training in SAPS mobile radio installation and removals, general electronics first line repairs and maintenance, as well as advanced general electronics and repairs, and portable radio repairs, to mention but a few.
The document indicating the constable had eight years’ experience in the unit, was allegedly false.
His transfer sheets reflected he had started in Ekuvukeni Community Service in 2006, before making his way to Newcastle Community Service in 2008, Newcastle Public Order Policing (POP) Unit in 2009, before starting in the SAPS Radio Technical Telecommunication Unit at the end of 2012, revealing the information on the document was false.
His motivation for submitting the alleged false declaration was to secure a trade test, which if he had passed, would have ensured him a promotion.
To date, it is unclear how the forged the documentation was not detected by the constable’s commanding officer.
Captain Shooz Magudulela declined to comment why the constable was still employed, as internal investigation was in progress.
“It is still being investigated; that is called steps against the member,” he said.
