Dogs in the firing line as bike thieves become more brazen
Thieves have taken to poisoning dogs to gain access to properties where motorcycles are kept.
In the most recent spate of motorcycle thefts in Newcastle, the culprits have shown shocking cruelty in their endeavours to deprive others of their two-wheeled property.
The suspects, whose identities and whereabouts remain unknown, have taken to poisoning dogs to make their task easier. Motorcycle theft has continued to rise steadily in recent months, with more than one case of attempted poisoning and poisoning of dogs reported recently.
It is believed these heinous acts are in order for thieves to gain access to motorcycles locked up on private properties.
Queries were met with a standard response from police spokesperson, Captain Shooz Magudulela.
“This office is unable to divulge live statistics, they are only released by the Minister,” he said. “However, there has been an upward incline with regards to motor bike thefts.”
According to Captain Magudulela, the Vehicle Identification Section, Crime Intelligence and local detectives were investigating.
“There are a series of activities which are currently in the pipeline. They (police units) are all working on something that this office cannot go into detail with,” he said.
Incidents of motorcycle theft are not isolated to Newcastle. There has been a national rise of incidents nationally, especially in Gauteng.
If you own a motorcycle, you are urged to take extra precautionary measures to ensure the safety of your property.
Although too early to confirm, it is believed a syndicate is in operation, obviously targeting motorbikes.
