Three uniformed guards now patrol and protect the areas covered by the project, and an undisclosed number of plain-clothed undercover guards are making inroads in monitoring and profiling suspected criminals.
Since the inception of the ‘Safe CBD Project’ three weeks ago, a marked decrease in crime has been noticed in the relevant areas.

Project chairman, Yousuf Randeree, called for the community to support this pilot project.
“We are already seeing some results, but we are still far from our real goal. The visible patrols have proved to be working already. However, we cannot keep the project running without the funds,” he said.
The project has called for those businesses that pledged financial support, to pay over their contribution to project treasurer, Jameel Butler at Scott Street Pharmacy.
Mr Randeree also introduced the three visible guards of the project, Phumlani Gamede, Michael Msibi, and Siboniso Malembe.
Each guard has a wealth of experience and has vowed to help eradicate crime from the CBD.
“I’m not afraid to chase these guys down, and make sure they face justice,” said Mr Malembe, his colleagues in full agreement.
The project further called upon the community to participate in the Question and Answer session regarding the project next week Wednesday, at 6pm at The Chicken Parlour.
