Tree one- alleged drunk driver nill

The driver was seriously injured in the incident.

An alleged drunk driver was seriously injured after he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a tree on Fountain Avenue earlier today.

According to police sources, the driver admitted to having left a nearby bar before the incident occurred.

ER24 Spokesperson, Margery Meijerink explained, “He was extremely lucky to not be fatally injured. Sometimes we see miracles like this. He received lacerations to his skull and he may have broken some bones in his hand.”

The driver has since been taken to Madadeni Provincial Hospital for further treatment.

Ward 2 Councilor, Bebsie Cronje was on-scene and voiced the community’s concern regarding the lack of speed-humps in the area.

“People have asked me  number of times to include speed-humps in the area, but due to budget restraints we have to concentrate on the school areas first.”

Fountain Avenue had been placed on the waiting list for future developments regarding traffic control.
