Two municipal buildings destroyed in flames
A rampant veld fire on the municipal property led to the blaze.
Winter months may have been waning, but a rampant veld fire gutted two municipal nurseries on Saturday afternoon.
Fortunately, the buildings were abandoned and did not hold any valuables.
No injuries or serious damages were reported, but it is suspected the building will be unusable in the future.
Aside from the rampant veld fire on the municipal property there was no other causes that could have possibly led to the blaze.
The Fire Department of Protection Services responded to the incident within minutes of it being reported and managed to successfully contain and extinguish the fire before further damages were incurred.
Regardless of the advent of the spring season, Newcastle residents are urged to be wary of veld fires.
The chances of veld fires erupting are still prevalent, and residents are advised to ensure fires are not left to spread freely.
