Madadeni police recently arrested a suspect for the murder of his mother.
This follows an incident where the suspect allegedly hacked his 50-year-old mother to death after an argument broke out between them in Section 7.
The suspect is the youngest of two brothers. The victim’s eldest son broke the silence recently in an emotionally charged yet bloodcurdling statement.
“My mother and I were watching soccer and when the match came to an end, I had to leave the house to run an errand. The neighbours called me and asked what was going on at my house. They told me to go home immediately because something wasn’t right,” he explained.
Panicked, he allegedly made his way home and came across a gruesome, unnatural scene.
“My mother was lying on the floor covered in blood. Her face and arms were hacked severely. My brother stood there, his clothes stained with blood…”
The family speculated the suspect might have been using drugs and further alleged he attempted to stab his mother in the past, but failed because she was strong enough to ward of his attack. “He threatened to kill her before; he is abusive.”
“She told me she didn’t feel safe,” said the victim’s sister, Nomusa Zwane.
After the brutal attack, it is alleged the victim changed his clothes and fled the scene.
The 29-year-old culprit was apprehended two days after the murder and detained awaiting a bail application. He has since appeared in court. He will, however, appear in court again on October 30.
“We never want to see him again,” concluded Mrs Zwane.
Police investigations continue.
