No delays expected in taxi rank project

The expected completion date was reported as March 30, 2015 but residents are now wondering if the down time currently being experienced would delay the project

Questions have risen over the construction of the Intermodel Facility (taxi rank) in Alexandra Street.
Residents are reporting that work has ceased, allegedly because the funds have dried up.Construction on the Intermodel Facility, which is a two-storey building with shops, waiting areas and will provide improved facilities to increase passenger safety and comfort, has seen taxi ranks shuffled to various areas in town and concerns grew about protection from the elements for hawkers and passengers.

The expected completion date was reported as March 30, 2015 but residents are now wondering if the down time currently being experienced would delay the project. Umtshezi Municipality, who has partnered with the Transport Department on this project, responded to questions posed by the Estcourt News about the alleged construction stoppage and claims that financing for the project has run out.

Municipal Manager Nonhlanhla Njoko said that no delays are expected and the project is progressing smoothly.
“The project is run by the KZN Department of Transport. We are not aware that they are not going to complete the project. Should there be challenges, they will be discussed at a meeting. As far as we are concerned, the completion date remains March 30, 2015,” commented Ms Njoko.
