Update: Final tally in Van Reenen horror crash

Here is a full breakdown of the fatalities, injuries and vehicles involved in the accident that took place in Van Reenen near Montrose on Friday morning: 17 heavy motor vehicles and 11 light motor vehicles, 1 dead, 1 seriously injured, 6 moderate injuries and 4 slight injuries.

In the initial accident, 7 heavy motor vehicles and 2 light motor vehicles collided, which resulted in 3 secondary accidents kilometres apart.

All patients were stabilised and taken to hospitals in Ladysmith for treatment.

The N3 between the Tugela Plaza and Montrose was closed for 8 hours.

N3TC and RTI (KZN and Free State) worked together to make sure the accident scenes were cleared so traffic could flow smoothly again.
