Fort Amiel Museum hosted a tour for the community to explore the sites and battlefields of the Transvaal War of Independence (first Boer War).
The tour started on Friday at the Masonic Lodge, with David Sutcliffe describing how the war had evolved from a relatively small battle into full scale battle with far-reaching consequences right across South Africa.
Mr Sutcliffe is a local Battlefields tour guide who has an in-depth knowledge of the historic battles that raged in bygone days.
Through his informative talk on the battles between the British and Boers that took place at , history enthusiasts were fully prepared for the actual tour on Saturday when they visited Fort Amiel, O’Neill’s Cottage, Laing’s Nek, Schuinshoogte, Majuba and Mount Prospect.
