“Your health is your real wealth,” Mahatma Gandhi.
Old Mutual hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness Breakfast at the scenic Blue Haze Country Lodge on Thursday morning.
With ladies socializing over a mouth-watering breakfast, which was served compliments of Blue Haze, Old Mutual Area Manager Rory Reynolds introduced the first guest speaker who is no new face to Estcourt residents, Dr Badul from the Estcourt Provincial Hospital. She shared the benefits of emotional care and practical support for breast cancer patients reaching for recovery. During her presentation she shared the symptoms of breast cancer, health tips, interesting facts and the types of tests that can be performed.

One other inspiring guest speaker was author of books such as “Dealing in Death” and “Steeped in Blood” and Old Mutual Market Developing Manager, Sylvia Walker.
Mrs Walker is known as the ‘woman who financially empowers women’. During the Breast Cancer Awareness programme, women are often reminded of the need for regular breast check-ups, but it is equally important to consider the disease’s financial implications.

“Any cancer diagnosis is a shock, but breast cancer can be especially traumatic. As breast cancer has one of the highest survival rates of all the potentially fatal cancers with early detection – more than 90 percent – many survivors will tell you that the financial implications are often underestimated. The stress of financial pressure can hamper the healing process. But proper financial planning, which incorporates severe illness cover, can prevent the situation,” said Mrs walker. To conclude the lovely morning was a lucky draw, all who attended walked away from the event equipped with handy tips on how to be money wise and how avoid the risk factors of breast cancer.
