Men In Black rock out at NOFTA fundraiser

NOFTA’s senior citizens and the Newcastle community enjoyed a sterling performance by Men In Black on Saturday night, November 22.
Specialising in a mix of old-school music from the 60s to the 90s, the Durban-based band has only played in Newcastle once before. The band comprises of founder, Siva Naidoo, saxophonist, Raphael Ebenezer, guitarist Tony Lachmiah, two vocalists, Akeem Dawood and Khombi Zinqubu and DJ, Pregasen Naidoo.
“I have a passion for helping senior citizens; when I was approached by Rajesh to perform I couldn’t say no,” said founder and MC for the night,
Mr Naidoo.

The goal of the night was to raise funds for Nofta’s newly envisioned safehouse project, where displaced senior citizens can take shelter until they are either re-united with their families or relocated to a place of safety.
Government is encouraging NPOs to raise funds to sustain themselves as public budget does not allow for supporting such organisations. Therefore, alongside raising funds for the project, Nofta’s secondary goal was to raise funds for the maintenance of its new service centre.
“We would definitely like to come back to Newcastle again in future and are looking forward to playing here again,” Mr Naidoo concluded.
