The festive season is upon us, but the the holiday period is not all fun and good cheer.
“With the festive season on our doorstep, an increase in accidents, emergencies and operations is imminent,” claimed Shavani Sewpaul, Newcastle SANBS spokesperson.
During the holiday season, SANBS needs the community more than ever to donate blood to save lives.
With this in mind, the Newcastle Blood Donor Centre will be hosting a special blood drive on Friday, November 28. SANBS staff invite all donors, especially of the O blood group, to donate blood from 9am to 6pm.
While all blood types are vital at all times, ‘O’ type is often referred to as emergency blood. O positive can be transfused to all positive blood types, while O negative can be transfused to any patient irrespective of whether they are positive or negative.
“If you know your blood type, we encourage all ‘O’ Group donors to proudly donate on this day,” Ms Sewpaul said.
However, the day is not limited to people with O type blood. “If you would like to donate blood, but do not know your blood group, you are more than welcome to donate as well,” she said.
By donating a single pint of blood, you can make a difference in someone’s life.
