Ex-cop in hot water

The 33-year-old suspect faces charges of fraud and impersonating a police officer

A former police officer was arrested yesterday (Tuesday, November 25) by members of the Ladysmith Dog Unit (K9). The 33-year-old Indian man faces charges of fraud and impersonating a police officer.

It is alleged that on November 19, the ex-cop approached a resident in the Leonardsville area, claiming to be a police officer working at the K9 Unit. The SAPS say that his employment ended on October 4 last year.

According to the complainant, the 33-year-old said he had two puppies for sale, for which the complainant paid a sum of money. The ex-cop returned later and asked for more cash, informing the resident that he could supply fully-trained dogs. However, the dogs never materialised and neither did the money.

The suspect is set to appear in court tomorrow (Thursday, November 27) and it is believed that additional charges may be added.
