Name: Ixchel Davies
Age: 21
Give a brief description of what you are currently doing: I’m currently employed as a marketing assistant at Qualitas Career Academy in Newcastle.

What year did you enter Miss Newcastle? 2011 and 2013.

Why did you enter Miss Newcastle? After entering and competing in the pageant, would you recommend other young girls enter? I entered the competition with the hopes of embarking on a fun-filled adventure, but it became so much more than that. I recommend you enter the competition if you are willing to be criticised to the extent that you unleash your full potential.

How has entering Miss Newcastle changed your life? Entering Miss Newcastle has boosted my self-confidence in so many ways. It has opened many doors for me too; I went from being a girl to a professional young lady.

What were some of the biggest challenges you experienced during the competition? Dealing with the stereotype that to be a model, you have to be a certain height was the biggest challenge for me.

Do you think some of these challenges became strengths by the end of the competition? Yes: I proved that even though I was shorter than others in the competition, I could still make it into the top ten. Miss Newcastle made me more openminded. I didn’t realise what my capabilities were until I’d accomplished everything I’d set out to do.

What was the most memorable part of competing in Miss Newcastle? Every single second spent being a part of Miss Newcastle was wonderful. Representing a brand, making new friends and making a difference within the community through charity work made the experience all the more memorable.

What have you gained from taking part in the competition? How do you think this will benefit you going forward? I learnt that nothing is impossible. I am capable of anything and so are you!
