Criticism over a growing litter and dumping problem throughout Endumeni has grown this past year.  Dumping of building material, household rubbish and even books is a common sight throughout the town.

Favourite places are Harvey Street, Tandy Street adjacent to the tennis club, Watt Road near the railway bridge and all over the central business district.

Weekends are especially ‘litter with abandon’ days.  The area opposite the taxi rank, in front of Goodluck Supermarket, is a hot-spot, it was heard at last week’s Ward 2 committee meeting, chaired by Councillor Anthon Raubenheimer.

The fact that this area is on the  ‘tourist route’ to Talana Museum and the battlefields is especially distressing for those in the hospitality industry.

However, Nic Bezuidenhout of the municipality, said that temporary workers will be employed in terms of the Expanded Public Works Programme, EPWP, with the aim of tasking these workers to embark on a clean up.  For residents, this cannot come too soon.
