Farmers do not only have to cope with a harsh drought but also a huge land claim on 340 properties in the Umzinyathi area.

The claim stretches from near Wasbank, to near Pomeroy, Rorke’s Drift and Dundee.

Farmers met on Friday to discuss a way forward.  Ironically, black farmers – who only received land five years ago a previous land claim – have also had their land claimed.

The singular claimant is Nkosi Sithole and the Sithole tribe.  Winston Sithole passed away several years ago but tribal representatives are continuing with the claim.

It was decided to take the issue to a lawyer specialising in land claims.
