Consumers warned to trim water use

Please report all leaks and bursts to save water."

The drought has finally forced Umzinaythi District Municipality to step-up water saving measures by asking consumers to limit their monthly consumption to less than 15kl.

Thami Malunga, acting municipal manager, said this is because of the ‘seriousness of the drought’.
“Where there are internal leaks, please call your plumber to repair these.  For leaks outside your property call the call centre number, 086 167 8883 during offices hours (7.30am to 4pm) and after hours at 034 21 222 22.
“Failure to reduce high water consumption will force us to impose punitive measures as per the approved bylaws of water by council.  Please report all leaks and bursts to save water.”
Just over 51mm of rain was measured last week and soft rain fell over the weekend.  However, still not enough to create run-off for the dams and rivers.
