Firearm owners warned of bogus trainers

“Applicants that have certificates issued before 2014 are required to be in possession of their SASSETA certificate with their training certificate in order to apply.

Firearm owners have been warned to be on the lookout for training institutions that issue fraudulent training certificates.
All training institutions need to be accredited with PFTC – the controlling body over firearm training providers.
This body will now be responsible for the issuing of statements of results, a police spokesman confirmed.
“In light of this, it has become a requirement that all individuals that require to apply for a competency must make use of an institution that is accredited with the PFTC to receive a statement of results.
“No applications will be accepted if this requirement is not met.
“Applicants that have certificates issued before 2014 are required to be in possession of their SASSETA certificate with their training certificate in order to apply.
Firearm owners are urged to also check on the expiry date of your card. If competency card has expired, kindly contact the firearm office at the Dundee police station, room C5, Dundee, or your nearest police station as these card need to be renewed. All previous correspondence with regard to this issue now cancels.
