Cherished moments shared at Ladysmith Provincial Hospital

Twice a year, this dynamic team looks forward to spending time with children in need of some love

N3TC, SAPS, EMRS and Sharaj Ambulance Services personnel took time out of their busy schedules to hand out soft teddy bears in Ladysmith Provincial Hospital’s paediatric wards this afternoon (Wednesday).

Twice a year, approaching the Easter holidays and December holidays, this dynamic team looks forward to spending time with these children and putting smiles on their faces. Known as the ‘Duduza’ project (meaning to provide comfort to children who are in hospital and away from home), this initiative was initiated 8 years ago. “The aim of the project is to show support and make children feel loved even though they are in traumatic situations,” said Praveen Sundarllal of N3TC.

Laughter and shrieks of delight were heard in the wards as the dedicated team handed out teddies to the little ones. Being paramedics, police and highway patrol personnel, they see the “worst” in their respective fields of work, but even so, the emotion was visible in their eyes as they comforted the child patients in hospital.

Ladysmith Provincial Hospital PRO Thabo Sithole welcomed the team with words of gratitude and thankfulness.
