A school discipline workshop was held at Amajuba School last Thursday afternoon.
Eager to find out how to maintain discipline effectively, teachers and principals from various schools gathered to learn from Dr Diya Chetty, President of the South African Principals’ Association in Gauteng.
“Academics is compromised when there is no discipline,” he said.
With this in mind, Dr Chetty discussed topics such as discipline and ethics, human rights and school discipline, the difference between authority and leadership, and why pupils did not respect their teachers.
“Titles and designations are not important. What is important, is the difference we can make. As teachers, you can make a huge difference in pupils’ lives,” he emphasised.
It was imperative that teachers should remain positive to overcome obstacles to ensure quality teaching, he concluded.
