What a relief for Watt Road residents

At a meeting in Peacevale, Endumeni Council Speaker, Sduduzo Mdluli, said the project was well underway with the work being done by local contractors, Klus/Drykon.

The much-needed upgrade on Watt Road that has caused so much angst for Peacevale and Forrestdale residents in recent years is underway. The road was decimated after it became the designated coal truck route.
However, after protests – that included the placing of burning tyres on the road – it was finally decided to move the route to Victoria and Willson Streets.
At a meeting in Peacevale, Endumeni Council Speaker, Sduduzo Mdluli, said the project was well underway with the work being done by local contractors, Klus/Drykon.
Buffalo Coal is still waiting for Transnet to give permission for the coal trucks to cross the railway line to allow the trucks to use the alternative route that has already been agreed upon. The alternative route will keep the coal trucks out of both the residential and business areas. However, without Transnet’s go-ahead the status quo will remain.
