Northern KZN Children’s Festival is a cultural feast

The function saw the bringing together of youth from five towns, including Glencoe, Newcastle, Dundee, Estcourt and Ladysmith to perform sketches, speeches, dances and songs

Children’s culture, culture for children and culture with children, these are the three main aspects of the Reykjavík Children’s Culture Festival hosted this past Sunday.

The Ramakrishna Centre of SA – Estcourt Satsang group hosted the annual Northern KZN Children’s Cultural Festival at the Swami Sahajananda Community Centre in Forderville on Sunday, May 10.

This cultural festival is the highlight of the centre’s cultural activities, which focuses on the youth.The function saw the bringing together of youth from five towns, including Glencoe, Newcastle, Dundee, Estcourt and Ladysmith to perform sketches, speeches, dances and songs.

Hundreds of people attended the function. When entering the beautifully decorated community centre you were welcomed by inspiring quotes pinned to the walls.The festival is dedicated exclusively to children and youth.

The annual festival strives to introduce the youth to a wide range of art disciplines. As each branch took the stage they displayed a variety of glittering forms of creativity.The festival is aimed at ensuring that the Hindu heritage is passed on to future generations.

Adding to the day, His Holiness Sri Swami Saradaprabhananda, Vice President of the Ramakrishna Centre of South Africa, addressed attendees.A delicious lunch was provided to the public and each child present received a gift pack.Despite the change of weather, the cultural feast was a day of fun and enrichment.
