Michaelis pupils go on tour
After settling in and an introduction talk by the guides the children began with their first task, quite a challenging obstacle course. The next few days saw the learners participating in various team building challenges consisting of: a raft building activity, climbing 18m high trees, long hikes observing nature and animals, San paintings, an outing to Falcon Ridge, horse-riding, abseiling and zip lining.
AT LAST, Monday, May 11, the day that all the Grade 5 – 7 learners had been waiting so long for, arrived.
This was the day that they would be leaving to go on their annual tour, this year to the beautiful Bergventure Resort in the Drakensberg. Bags were filled to the brim, learners were bubbling over with excitement and parents were doing their best to make sure that their kids didn’t leave anything behind.
The first stop was at the Siege Museum in Ladysmith. It was interesting to observe how the learners were attracted to different displays. After an extended stop at Wimpy, all the reserves were stocked up and we finally set off for the mountains. When we arrived at Bergventure we were warmly welcomed by Nick and Max. The learners could not wait to “invade” the dormitories and each find their own little spot.

Thursday evening, the last evening of the tour came to a close with group concerts that had been creatively put together and rehearsed all week. The learners also had to make their own potjies for dinner.
This was an exciting week spent together, learning new things, breaking the barriers of comfort zones and getting to know each other better. We would like to thank Bergventure and their team for an enjoyable and informative stay.
